My arrest, an attempt to frustrate passage of Peace Bill- Akor

The National Commandant of Nigerian Peace Corps NPC, Amb. Dickson Akor has said his arrest shortly after the organisation opened its headquarters was a clear attempt to frustrate the National Assembly from passage of the Bill.

It would be recalled that recently, Akor and over 40 other members were arrested, while he was charged with 90 counts.
During a courtesy call to Minister of Youths and Sports, Bar. Solomon Dalung, yesterday, Akor maintained that his organisation committed no crime.
He said: “The Peace Corps Bill, if given assent by Mr. President, would go a long way in reducing insecurity, crime rates and such other related issues by 90 percent.

“The very day we opened our office in Abuja, top government officials led by the Police invaded our office and sealed the office, and took me to court on a 90-count charge. It’s the passage of the Bill, just like it happened to Civil Defence and many organisations before us that elicited that action.
“We have clearance from the Police and ICPC exonerating the organisation from any wrongdoing.

“We have such organisations as Boys Scout, Girls Brigade, Man O War, among others, whose primary aim is to create and accommodate the teeming youths. Without them, the crime rate would have been more alarming than it is today
